The Henry George School of Social Science Offers Free Classes Year-Round

The Murray Hill Neighborhood Association is very pleased to welcome The Henry George School of Social Science (HGSSS) as a nonprofit member.

The School offers free classes to educate the public about, and highlight the relevance of, the economic and social reform agenda of Henry George—an economist who grappled with the problem of wealth inequality during the industrial revolution. His policy of a single tax on land value once dominated economic discourse throughout the Western World and his thinking continues to shed light on many current issues. The Henry George papers are in the Manuscripts and Archives Division at The New York Public Library.

The School’s courses and seminars are offered year-round, bringing a justice-based perspective to the study of economics, with a focus on issues such as free trade, the rise of monopolies, tax policy, and urban and environmental policy. All courses are free and open to the public, ensuring lively discussions and a dynamic learning experience. The School also hosts valuable online resources, including a monthly video series called Smart Talk, featuring conversations with eminent personalities in the world of economics and policy making. Students from all backgrounds are welcome and prior study of economics is by no means a prerequisite.
