Short Profile

Sophisticated 'Pub Grub' in an authentic tavern setting

Profile

THE STORY

An English man by the name of Jason Hicks, who was born and bred in the birthplace of William Shakespeare (Stratford-upon-Avon), and attended the very school which Shakespeare attended, wished to create a British style pub in NYC called The Shakespeare. He identified the basement of the Williams Club in Murray Hill as the perfect location…

In the same vein as Jason’s successful Jones Wood Foundry, The Shakespeare offers well kept beers, friendly attentive service, in a casual no-frills environment serving a more sophisticated form of ‘Pub Grub’. This, coupled with a setting reminiscent of a 14th century tavern in Stratford-upon-Avon, creates the perfect place to have a ‘pint’ and grab a bite to eat.

GUEST BEER PROGRAM

At The Shakespeare you can find some of the finest iterations of English brewing tradition. Whether it be a complex and quaffable Young's of London Ale, or a malty pint of real ale drawn straight from our casks. To complement our stellar UK tradition, we tip our hat to beers of all kinds, from all corners, and will offer you an interesting pint - not always easily found elsewhere. These brews are carefully selected by a meeting of the "beer-minds". We encourage you to visit often to see what we're featuring.

THE ABINGDON ROOM

The Abingdon Room is The Shakespeare’s bar room. Named after a village just outside of Oxford, England, the village of Abingdon was where the famous MG sports car was manufactured. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the MG factory, a beer called ‘Old Speckled Hen’ was brewed. Old Speckled Hen is now part of the portfolio of Greene King whom we are proud to partner with.
