Short Profile

NYC’s most connected neighborhood at the East River's Edge

Profile

NYC’s most connected neighborhood, where Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens meet at the East River’s edge

ABOUT URBANCOAST New York City’s most magnetic new district is defined by one of its most overlooked and essential landmarks: The East River. Check out the waterfronts and shorelines of Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn and you’ll find a trove of distinctive neighborhoods, each sparkling with innovation — from the hot chefs and cool restaurants in Williamsburg to the under-the-radar stretch of Manhattan along the water that is buzzing with cool residential projects, parks and bars.

Now, thanks to the fast-expanding East River Ferry Service, these communities are coming together in a new and exciting way. Over the next two years, NYC will be investing $325 million to add five ferry routes serving South Brooklyn, Queens, the Lower East Side and the Bronx. This is a game-changer. A sea change, if you will, that will create the most extensive network of urban passenger ferries in the world and a unique riverine zone where today is being re-invented.

As more and more New Yorkers flock to this waterfront neighborhood to work, to live, to eat, to exercise and to play, UrbanCoast will be your guide, capturing the early-adopter spirit and pride of place. They will navigate the interesting, the unexpected and the unfolding lifestyle developments along both sides of the East River. They will introduce you to the boots-on-the-ground pioneers and city officials making it happen and steer you to the places you need to explore.

As New York natives, Lisa and Garrett been watching the East Side’s transformation with great interest. When they learned about plans for the American Copper Buildings, the new “dancing” towers going up on the Manhattan side of the river, they knew the time had come to get this project off the ground. They got in touch with JDS Development Group, the team behind American Copper Buildings, and the idea for UrbanCoast took shape. (Thank you, JDS, for being UrbanCoast's inaugural sponsor!)
