Participatory Budgeting is introduced in Districts 2 and 4

This year for the first time, New York City Council District 2 (Council Member Carlina Rivera) and District 4 (Council Member Keith Powers) are implementing Participatory

Budgeting, which designates $1 million to each council district for projects to improve the neighborhood. It allows residents of a neighborhood to submit their ideas for projects on an interactive map. Budget Delegate volunteers will turn ideas into real proposals, with input from city agencies. Neighborhood residents will then vote on which projects to fund. Voting will occur in the spring.

 

Eligible projects that have been submitted include improving the signage to the East River Esplanade, street repaving, St. Vartan Park improvements, better rodent control, renovating the water fountains at PS 116, milkweed plantings for Monarch butterflies at Stuy Cove Park, and adding benches on Park Avenue. All ideas will be considered.
